- Bothenhampton is an ancient village of
one street that now extends to several hundred modern homes particularly popular
with older in-comers into the area. Bothenhampton is separated from
Bridport to the west by a few yards of ancient flood plain beside the River
Asker and the Safeway supermarket (protected by modern levees).
- Holy Trinity was built in 1890, a late
Victorian church of the Arts and Crafts movement, to replace the old,
now redundant, 14th century church which had by then become too small. The
former church nestles under the hills in a peaceful setting at the eastern
edge of the village. The nave of the old church has been demolished, but the
chancel and tower remain.
- Because of the older congregations
Bothenhampton offers BCP Matins once a month, BCP Evensong twice a month and
BCP Communion whenever there is a fifth Sunday. We also have
occasional Songs of Praise services for example at Harvest and we involve
the local Guides and Brownies and encourage them to lead our Crib
Service. Another high light of the year is the annual Rogation Service
when we process through the village to the Old Church and hold the service
in the churchyard. There is as much involvement with the village as
possible and the congregation is very welcoming and helpful.
